Sauna safety precautions

  • Preheat the Sauna: Please turn on the sauna heater about one hour before use to warm up the room.
  • Turn Off When Not in Use: Always switch off the sauna heater when it is not in use.
  • Use Hot Water for Löyly: Always use hot water for löyly. Using cold water can cause damage to the heater.
  • Please use only tap hot water or the specified löyly aromas for sauna heaters. The use of any brought-in liquids, such as aromatherapy oils or teas, is strictly forbidden due to the risk of damaging the heater and stones. In the event of a violation, actions including claims for damages will be taken.
  • Moderate Löyly Water: Pouring a large amount of water at once can produce high-temperature steam and cause burns, so please adjust the amount of water used for löyly.
  • Do Not Touch the Heater or Stones: Avoid touching the heater and stones during use as it poses a risk of burns.
  • Please be careful of your footing and avoid falling when using the sauna bench.
  • Keep Flammable Materials Away: Do not place flammable or combustible materials near the sauna heater.
  • Aromas for Löyly: If aromas for löyly are provided, do not bring the aroma bottles into the sauna room.
  • Avoid Alcohol: For safety, please refrain from using the sauna if you have consumed alcohol.

The main-house electric sauna is out of service

The main-house electric sauna is unavailable because of a heater malfunction. No reopening date has been confirmed.

Sauna bathing routine

Use the sauna, cool down and rest at your own pace. Do not continue if you feel unwell.

Using sauna aroma for loyly

A bottle of sauna aroma is provided in the washbasin area. Fill the loyly bucket with warm water from the bathroom tap, then dilute the aroma in the water before pouring it over the sauna stones.
The usual guide is 2–3 pumps, but the fragrance is concentrated: start with a small amount and add one pump at a time as needed.

The aroma is flammable. Never bring the bottle into the sauna room.

Sauna aroma safety precautions
  • Do not bring aroma bottles into the sauna room.
  • Avoid pouring too much water over the stones.
  • Always dilute the aroma with water.
  • Never pour undiluted aroma directly onto the stove. It contains ethanol and can catch fire.
  • Do not apply it to your skin.
  • It is not a bath additive.
  • Do not drink it.

Using the pellet stove

Lighting the pellet stove

This section is for the pellet stove, which is separate from the wood stove in the kura sauna. For sauna heating, see Using the kura sauna wood stove.

Guests light this stove themselves. Once the pellets are lit, do not add more until they have burned out. Always wear heat-resistant gloves when using the pellet stove.

Use only the pellets provided by the property. Do not burn other materials in this stove.

Wait until the pellets have completely burned out before refilling. Adding pellets while they are burning can create a dangerous amount of smoke.

Do not leave the property while lighting the stove. Finish errands first or ensure that an adult remains with the fire. Wear the designated heat-resistant gloves, stored under the kitchen counter.

Place pellets in the basket.

Place two fire starters on top of the pellets and light them with the long-reach lighter.

Close the stove door promptly after lighting.

When lighting the pellets, move the air-control lever down as shown to improve airflow. Once the fire is burning well, move the lever up.

After lighting, switch off and secure the lighter.

Refill only after the pellets have burned out, and wear heat-resistant gloves. Grasp the door handle firmly and lift it upward to open the door.

Pellet storage

Pellets are stored under the kitchen sink.

The container holds the pellets. The scoop, fire starters, lighter, leather gloves and fire tongs are kept outside the container.

STEP
Prepare space for kindling

Leave space in the centre of the firebox for airflow. Place two medium-sized logs side by side.

STEP
Stack the kindling in alternating directions

Stack small kindling pieces in alternating directions so air can pass between them.

STEP
Place and light the fire starter
Place the fire starter under the kindling so its flame can ignite the wood from below.
Use the lighter to light the fire starter.
STEP
Add medium and larger logs as needed

Add one large log about every 30 minutes as needed to maintain the fire and room temperature.

Always wear heat-resistant gloves when opening the wood-stove door. The stove becomes extremely hot; take care to avoid burns.

At first, leave the lower drawer slightly open for airflow. Close it once the wood is burning well.

Additional firewood

Firewood and kindling are stored on the right side of the entrance storage room.

If you stay beyond the check-out time, the stated late check-out charge is JPY 3,000 per 20 minutes.

Waste sorting and storage

For longer stays, extra bagged waste may be placed in the storage room. Close the shutter afterwards to keep birds out.

Please separate waste into the following three groups to help keep the property clean.

  • Burnable waste: general waste and food packaging.
  • Non-burnable waste: cans, bottles, plastic drink bottles and aerosol cans.
  • Recyclable paper: cardboard, newspapers and magazines.

Put food scraps into a small plastic bag before placing them with burnable waste.

Please sort waste and keep the bags separate before check-out. Thank you for helping our cleaning staff.
